'Rejoice' is one half of the club paired colorways inspired by the the story of Persephone. The other half of this pair is 'Despair', available in a separate listing.
Dyer's Notes regarding Persephone (included on original club fiber labels):
“Persephone is the goddess of the underworld in Greek mythology. She is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, goddess of the harvest. Persephone was such a beautiful young woman that everyone loved her, even Hades wanted her for himself. One day, when she was collecting flowers on the plain of Enna, the earth suddenly opened and Hades rose up from the gap and abducted her. None but Zeus, and the all-seeing sun, Helios, had noticed it. Broken-hearted and full of despair, Demeter wandered the earth, looking for her daughter until Helios revealed what had happened. Demeter was so angry that she withdrew herself in loneliness, and the earth ceased to be fertile. Knowing this could not continue much longer, Zeus sent Hermes down to Hades to make him release Persephone. Hades grudgingly agreed, but before she went back he gave Persephone a pomegranate (or the seeds of a pomegranate, according to some sources). When she later ate of it, it bound her to underworld forever and she had to stay there one-third of the year. The other months she stayed with her mother. When Persephone was in Hades, Demeter refused to let anything grow and winter began. I immediately felt the opposing themes of separation and reunion which are so strong in this myth. As I played with the dyes, I developed a deep sense of Demeter's despair over her missing daughter. And in counterpoint to that, I kept envisioning her overwhelming happiness when Persephone returned. (...and visions of pomegranates danced 'round her head...)"

How will MY fiber selection look? (Mouse over or click photos for details)
-Superwash (SW) bases: The colors will appear bright with distinct edges and some white.
-Non-superwash single ingredient bases (Falkland, Merino, Polwarth, BFL, Corriedale Cross* and Wensleydale): The colors will have softer edges and blend slightly where they meet, with less or no white, depending on the colorway.
-Bamboo and Tencel blends: The wool portion will take the dye as usual, but the bamboo and tencel are not affected by acid dyes- the bamboo appears as silvery streaks and the tencel as glossy, translucent streaks.
-Silk blends: These will look much like their non-silk containing counterparts, but with a bit of extra delight (depth of color and sheen) where the silk fibers sparkle with color.
-VBFL (variegated natural brown and ecru) Bluefaced Leicester: This base allows for a lovely depth of color, with interesting, subtle heathering in your yarn.
-Panda (SW Merino/Bamboo/Nylon 60/30/10): The brightness and whiteness of superwash Merino, with the silvery streaks of bamboo. The nylon takes the dye really well, too, similarly to the SW Merino. -100% Silk: a lovely sheen, possibly lighter or darker colors, perhaps just a bit of white.
* A note on Corriedale Cross combed top- this fiber is from South America, and I am not sure of the full lineage of the sheep, just that it is Corriedale with other breeds bred in. The fiber is rather coarse, similar to Romney, averaging 29.5 microns and 3.5 in/90 mm staple length. Delightful to spin, takes dye wonderfully.
All fiber bases are commercial combed top preparations, hand dyed by Ginny of FatCatKnits. Colorways are dyed according to recipes and processes developed to produce the most consistently repeatable colorways. That said, this is a HUMAN operation- please expect some degree of variation between batches, and even from braid to braid.
