 Product Description

Dyed to order, ships in 1-4 weeks.

All fiber bases are commercial combed top preparations, hand dyed by Ginny of FatCatKnits. Colorways are dyed according to recipes and processes developed to produce the most consistently repeatable colorways. That said, this is a HUMAN operation- please expect some degree of variation between batches, and even from braid to braid.

The MegaSAL was the brainchild of David of Southern Cross Fibre. A few years ago he assembled a great group of dyers- himself, me, Hello Yarn, Into the Whirled, Nest Fiber Studio and Spunky Eclectic, and set us the challenge of creating colorways inspired by the massive fantasy book series, Discworld.

I was a bit of a newbie to this series, having read only 'Going Postal' some years ago, and now 'Guards! Guards!', to get inspired (LOVED both of them). Based on my readings, I created two colorways, this one, and another, Ankh Morpork, available in a separate listing.

Head over to the MegaSAL group on Ravelry to see all the amazing colorways and the fantastic yarns and projects created.

I don't want to spoil 'Guards! Guards!' if you have not read it, so to explain the creative process just a bit- there is a dragon in the book. Mostly at night. And it is NOT nice. I went literal with this, creating a dark, pitch purple and blue dragon 'skin', adding in a bit of gray 'smoke' and finishing with some yellow-hot 'flame'. Laid out in a mirrored progressive color- spin a gradient, strip it thin and spin at random, break out the colors and spin separately for a colorwork project. Or, ply it with one of the other dyer's colorways. At any rate, HAVE FUN :)

  1. Love this fiber and color

I love this fiber. It's so soft and spins very easily. I liked it so much I bought another 8 oz. Fat Cats has become my new favorite dyer.

  2. Wow

I almost missed the boat on MegaSAL and then saw that this was going to be available. Honestly that was the only reason I ordered but WOW, I will definitely order from Fat Cat again. Love the colors and can't wait to ply it.

  3. Spins like a dream

Posted by Julie on 29th Apr 2015

The Targhee base was a joy to spin. It drafts easily and spun up into a nice chain-ply fingering weight with delightful ease. There was absolutely no color bleed when I soaked my skein to set the twist. The colors are bright and vibrant and I can't wait to knit with the resultant yarn.

  4. Love this fiber and color

I love the fiber. It so "sparkly" and it spins wonderfully. I have been checking the Fat Cats website more of this fiber. I would definitely order it again if offered.
